Brief History
Pastor James C Milligan had
a burden to begin a United Pentecostal Church in the city of San Benito
TX. The doors to Abundant Life Tabernacle first opened in 1989, in a
small corner building on the corner of Stenger and Austin St.
In 1993, with the Lord's blessings, the church body soon outgrew our small
corner building. The church then moved to a larger storefront in the heart
of downtown San Benito, on the corner of Stenger and Sam Houston.
The Lord continued to open
doors and in 2003, the church was blessed with two and a half acres of
land and the opportunity to be a part of the "Church in a Day"
project. Community members from all over the Rio Grande Valley as well as
church members from across the nation converged on our plot of land to aid in
the construction of our fair building. The project, foundation to our first
service, was completed in 36 hours.
Today, our name may be
different from the small building on Stenger and Austin, but our mission
remains the same. That mission is to spread the gospel to every man, woman, boy
and girl.
What We Believe
The
Pentecostal Church of San Benito is a biblically-based church. We believe in
the Oneness of God. Jesus
Christ is God manifested in flesh. He is both God and Man. As the bible teaches,
we believe salvation is by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, not by works.
Faith in Jesus Christ is the means by which a person is justified.
At the
same time, a sinner must believe the gospel; he is commanded to repent of his
sins, be baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ, and to receive the gift
of the Holy Spirit with the initial sign of speaking with other tongues (Acts
2:38).
Praise and Worship
"It
came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound
to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their
voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the
Lord, saying, for He is good; for His mercy endureth forever: that then the
house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; so that the priest
could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord
had filled the house of God." (II Chronicles 5: 13-14)
"Hear,
O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will
sing praise to the Lord God of Israel" (Judges 5: 3).
"For
great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised..." (1 Chronicles 16: 25)
"For
in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chiefs of the singers, and
songs of praise and thanksgiving unto God." (Nehemiah 12: 46)
"Praise
the Lord with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten
string." (Psalms 33: 2)
Romans 5: 8 tells us that,
"...while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
As His children we could not
consider giving Him less then our best. If you're looking for a place where you
can leave it all on the field, where you can worship and praise the Lord with
all your mind and soul and strength why don't you stop by and say 'hello'. We'd
be happy to have you over.
